Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a condition characterised predominantly, but not exclusively, by problems with episodic memory. These memory complaints are measurable with cognitive tests and noticeable by the relatives and friends of the patient. Research has shown that individuals with MCI have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease during the years following their presentation to a clinician.
The CANTAB MCI tests have a heritage of research in clinical trials and academic studies examining cognitive deficits in MCI and Alzheimer’s disease, their functional correlates, and their remediation using anti-dementia agents. More than 70 academic papers attest to the sensitivity of these tests to the cognitive deficits seen in MCI, Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia. Performance on these tests has been shown to correlate with functional status and to predict rates of cognitive decline.
